What??? You’re thinking, “Is she nuts?” Paypal takes my hard-earned money with their fees!!!
But I bet if you’re an online merchant, you use paypal, or you have at some point.
Consider this. If you are a premiere or business account on Paypal, you are entitled to a Paypal debit card. This is one of the best features of Paypal, as far as I’m concerned. Because this one can give you money back!
One, it makes it easy to get access to my money, and two, it has that little mastercard logo on it, and I can use it as a credit card when buying supplies (makes keeping track of expenses easy for someone lazy like me who isn’t the best at keeping receipts.) And three, when you use the debit card as a credit card (with the little mastercard logo), paypal will give you 1.5% back on your purchase price.
Inadvertently, the other day at the gas pumps, that’s the card I had on hand, and as much as I don’t like to use that debit card to pay for routine things like gasoline, I may be changing my ways.
I live on Long Island, where gas prices for regular AT BEST are hovering around $4.15 and that 9/10 thingy, making it actually $4.16. It cost me $52 on Thursday to put 12.5 gallons worth of gas in my car. eeks!!!!! I have a Toyota Scion tc, with a little 13-gallon tank and pretty good gas mileage, but still, at these prices, I dread going to the gas station.
At any rate, when I checked my paypal account this morning, I saw that paypal had given me $.78 back. Big deal, you’re saying. That and a nickel might buy you a piece of gum.
But when you do the math– geeky I know– it turns out that with that little rebate, instead of paying $4.15 and 9/10 for gas, I paid $4.09 and 7/10 for my gas. That’s a 6 cents and change savings per gallon. Huh. I can’t find gas at $4.09 anywhere near where I live. In some places, it’s up to $4.29 for regular (shame on you Exxon!)
Anyway, if you have a Paypal debit card, consider using it for gas purchases…. if you don’t and you have the proper Paypal account, consider getting one. They’re free. And you get 1.5% back on any “credit” purchase (where you don’t punch in your PIN and you pretend your debit card is a powerful mastercard!!)
Oh, and BTW, I don’t work for paypal or mastercard, and they haven’t paid me to endorse them.
